In order to achieve the Queen's Scout award, a Venturer has to undertake over 300 hours
of effort in a variety of areas.
Firstly the Venturing Skills award is designed to ensure the Venturer has basic skills and knowledge in the areas of bushwalking, camping, first aid and the award scheme.
From here, the Queen's Scout award is split into four diamonds, each consisting of between 3 to 5 individual challenge badges.
- The Community Involvement diamond has four compulsory areas with the emphasis on service and making a contribution to the community we live in.
- The Adventurous Activities diamond has three compulsory areas and another to be completed to a higher standard, with the emphasis on initiative and outdoor activities and expeditions.
- The Personal Growth diamond has four compulsory areas and another to be completed to a higher standard, which gives the Venturer the opportunity to find out about themselves through expression, lifestyle, thought development and pursuits.
- The Leadership Development diamond consists of three compulsory areas, including Unit Management and Leadership courses, giving training in the necessary skills for both Unit leadership, and together with vocational training, prepares for the move into the workforce.
The Venturer then must prove themselves to not only have completed the technical requirements of the award, but to be recognized as being of good character and a worthy member of the Scouting movement, for they must demonstrate that they are practicing the Scout promise and law in everyday life.
